For the fifth year in a row, management consultancy Dr. Fried & Partner was commissioned by touristik aktuelll to carry out the online voting for the Globus Award. Due to the coronavirus crisis, the ranking of some service providers was different than expected. More than 1,400 travel salespeople from 1,300 travel agencies took part in the vote at the end of last year.
Schauinsland-Reisen, Chamäleon, Iberostar, Aida Cruises and the Dominican Republic Tourist Board are the big winners of this year’s Globe Awards. They were voted best travel agency service by a wide margin in some cases, including in the categories ‘Support with rebooking and cancellations after the first lockdown’, ‘Communication and availability throughout the crisis’, ‘Goodwill’ and ‘Help with a fresh start’.
Some of the changes in the ranking are no surprise, however, such as TUI slipping from third to seventh place among the major tour operators and not even making the top ten in the overall ranking of tour operators. Airtours also experienced a crash, while Alltours took second place for the first time.
Among the tour operators, Ferien Touristik/Coral Travel, for example, deserves special praise: the provider did not switch off its hotline during the crisis, went on a roadshow despite the pandemic and invited top sellers to an award ceremony. The reward for this: the Düsseldorf-based operator climbed from 10th place in 2019 to 5th place in this year’s ranking.
In addition to Alltours, the up-and-comers also include Aldiana, Phoenix Reisen, Nicko Cruises and the Dominican Republic Tourist Board: all of them made it onto the podium for the first time – with the Dominican Republic even taking first place at the first attempt. This is likely to have a lot to do with the tourist board’s newcomer, Yudelka Lopez: In addition to the good work of the Frankfurt headquarters, the former Melia manager attracted a lot of attention in the travel agency industry with seven fam trips.
The teams from Dr. Fried & Partner and touristik aktuell would like to thank all participants.
