Since 2005, we have been calculating the “Touristischer Vertriebsklima-Index” monthly, which is based on the ifo-Business Climate Index. This index acts as an early indicator of economic development and offers a comprehensive insight into the past, current and future market situation as well as the mood in travel sales. We use an online survey to analyse the area of holiday travel, both in stationary and online sales.

Global Travel Buyer Index
The Global Travel Buyer Index (GTBI) is an industry indicator for tourism purchasing developed by Dr. Fried & Partner in cooperation with ITB Berlin, which was published for the first time in March 2025 as part of the ITB Convention. The GTBI provides valuable insights into the current market situation and the expectations of tourism buyers and serves as an early indicator for the development of the travel market. The index is based on a quarterly standardized online survey among the members of the ITB Buyers Circle. This group consists of international decision-makers who work for tour operators, business travel or MICE and have significant purchasing budgets. The survey focuses on the purchasing volume, the share of fixed purchases and the contractual expenses for the purchase of tourism services. The aim of the index is to make changes in purchasing behavior visible at an early stage and to provide a structured analysis of market dynamics.
