On 14 May 2022, the premiere of the famous Passion Play was finally celebrated in Oberammergau after a two-year delay due to the coronavirus pandemic. The day was also a special highlight for the team at Dr. Fried & Partner, as the municipality of Oberammergau has been one of our clients since 2016. The sales concept for the Passion Play was developed together and presented to international sales partners. The organisers, AOVO from Hannover, and the ticket shop Eventim were also found to be the ideal sales and system partners for the distribution of individual tickets and accommodation packages. No easy task – almost half a million guests from all over the world visit the Alpine idyll of Oberammergau in the four and a half months of the Passion Play.
So the anticipation was great when it became clear that the Passion Play 2022 could take place. One part of our team attended the dress rehearsal, the other part was there for the premiere. Between the almost six-hour performance, we enjoyed a hearty meal of local specialities and took a stroll through the picturesque village. Oberammergau quickly captivates its visitors with the Passion Play. We too were impressed by the commitment and sense of community in the village. It’s almost as if the restaurant owner, who had just been on stage as Pilate, is welcoming you as a matter of course during the interval.
From early summer until late autumn, the majority of the village is occupied with the Passion Play, 24 hours a day. The Oberammergau Passion Theatre, which seats approximately 4,400 people, is where the famous play about the suffering, death and resurrection of Christ takes place in more than 100 performances.
